What is the best way to weather an aircraft

With much restraint. Most active aircraft are relatively clean machines so what is added would be more in the nature of a light residue. Sort of the look of an area of oil that has been wiped off. A little darker and a bit shinier than what is underneath, but not much. Panel lines would need to be a sort of dark color that has some ties to the colors around it. A stark black wash would be too intense. Hope it helps.

The article that Rowan has pointed out is a good place to start. I would say though, that know one can tell you the best way to weather an aircraft model, what works for you is the best. I would suggest that you read the article, and as many others as you can find, then ask specific questions. If you would like, come back to this thread and I, and I'm sure others will gladly give you the lowdown on their techniques. :-)
