Here is my entry for the Age of Aces campaign !

It is the Albatros DIII OAW made by Eduard in 1/48th scale.

here is the result :

I must say that I'm very happy with the result even if it's my first biplane.
The wires are... painted copper 0.3mm wires.
To achieve the "wood effect", I painted the plane dark yellow, futured, then applied small dots of dark brown artist oils. I then pushed them back and forth with a soft brush. Then came some more future.
I did a very light wash, inspiring myself from Mal's technique. These planes didn't survive long so I wanted it to look good, nearly new !

Please feel free to ask any question and give me any comment you wish ! I am ready and willing th hear interesting critics !

There are more picutres in my gallery.

PS : i'm now addicted to WWI planes and I've begun working on a Nieuport !

Penpen,

what a lovely plane! The wooden parts really are amazing.
Just the landing gear, engine parts and the grill on the upper wing could use some VERY light weathering, stains, something like that. Maybe even a puff or two of pastels would do the trick.
However, if you´re going to display it without groundwork, it doesn´t need even that.

Wonderful work! These little flying thingies really attract the eye with their colourful paint schemes.

Hi penpen :-)

Lovely job!... and nice to see someone can get the oils right! :-) My effort attracted so much dust, I stripped it all off and did the wood-grain with water colours!

I know what you mean about catching the bi-plane bug! I'm looking for an excuse to build another. :-)

I agree with Toni... I'd add a little weathering... after all, this Albatros at least survived long enough to get some fancy personal markings. :-)

There's some lovely work visible in the cockpit... nice work! :-)

All the best

Guys, I think you are right... I may weather the front part a bit more...

:-) Nicely done penpen, looks fabulous. I do like the wood finish. I agree, just a little weathering, even after one flight there would be a few minor stains and scuffs from re-arming, re-fueling, maintenance etc. You are to be congratulated, I must build one of these, soon :-)
