Gents,
Ten days work since this one arrived and I think we are just about there!
Massive thing it is and generally very nice. I dont like the different coloured plastic - the silver stuff is awful to work with and the fit of the tail to the fuselage is poor as is the dorsal spine section but then I was working at breakneck speed. I wanted something different to the kit decals and based mine on the dirty USS Oriskany aircraft enclosed. I was able to adapt the kit decals and what I couldn't I painted with masks. The wing codes are a bit of a cheat with the different sizes.
Full run down in the next issue of AIR Modeller
kind regards David

Congrats, that's a beautiful build, and it's dead on the look of the 1:1 plane. Also, I'd have to give it bonus points for the speed with which it was done-I can't fathom how you were able to build a kit of that size and complexity to such a standard of excellence in only 10 days!
By the way, how did you achieve the realistic blowback on the wing staining?

Hi David
Fantastic job! Incredible that it took you only ten days (even working flat out)! The exhaust and oil-staining are just superb.
The only addition I'd suggest would be to flatten the tyres a bit, especially with that heavy weapons load, to counter the "standing on tip-toe" look.
All the best

Thanks Gents,
The oil stains were a mix of AK interactive' Winter Streaking Grime', some Comart Transparent Smoke and Lifecolor Tensocrom oil.
I put the streaking grime onto the leading edge in puddles and used a dry airbrush to blow it back over the wing. I then used a big brush with white spirits to drag over the area and break up the grime more and more blowing from the airbrush - this process was repeated several times. Transparent smoke was airbrushed over the area and finally I touched in some of the 'wave' patterns with a brush using the Tensocrom oil.
Agreed the tires could use a squish!
Yes I think I will have the model at Telford next weekend along with my King Tiger
regards David

Great looking build and the fact that you completed it in such a short time is incredible. I love the Skyraider and building one is on my modelling bucket list. 1/32 is pretty big, I'll probably look for one in 1/48.

Hey Dave, you have really blown me away with this. Fantastic looking spad. What really caught my attension was the oil blow back, it's the cherry on top of the whiped cream. I have several 1/35 &1/32 W.W.2 planes for retirement along with 9 V.N choppers and this has given me food for thought. I see alot of smoke stains and battle damage but your oil stains are just great, something you don't see often. You have raised the bar for me and hopefuly I'll get close one of these days. This is a real winner in my opinion, great job and you should be very happy with it. Good luck at the show. Thanks alot for sharing and the tip on the oil stains.
