To celebrate the 100 years of the flight of t 1st President in the world to fly, the Mexican Francisco I. Madero; I started a simple model, build in balsa, paper, depron.

the challenge to me where the wheels, I never built before a spoke wheels. After the wheels cam to calculate the size of the plane. With a lenght of 10.5" the model will be an hibrid static scale/freeflight/RC model. Only changing the motor and components it coulb be one of the options.

The model not will be an pure scale, only representative.

Here the pics.

Cheers

Al

Thanks, now the fuselage is covered, and the planes cuted from deprom, only the bottom fuselage "buble" is next, and the paint job. As the deprom is 1mm, is very thin to simulate ribs, I thought in 2 options, to paint in light color, and then to tape the ribs lines and next a "dark" paint. the second option is to make slim paper stripes, and glue to surfaces... what do yuo think?

Cheers.

I think paint in two colors is a better plan. you will have more control to make it look like shadow.

Well, maybe the hurry is not a good advisor the plane is ensambled, with all painted, the cilinders will be from round sticks and to simulate the discs, thread around the stick.

wood and paper is always so attractive, in both model and full scale planes.
The tail shapes are very graceful.

Your design might be a good candidate to rubber band power

Thanks Jonathan, maybe it will mount double option, free flight nose dummy motor, and dummy motor with scale prop for display

At 4.30 pm, hour of the center of Mexico, we said few words that recall the fact 100 years before, the first flight of a President in the world, Francisco I. Madero, and the model was hanged after his picture.

With this simple homage we remember one of the most important facts of the Mexican Aviation History:

Cheers.

Well that is splendid !
Is it a public museum ?
I see a rotary engine in the floor , is it from the same airplane the president flew?

Thanks Jonathan, yes, is a public museum, in Guadalajara Jalisco, is the Mexican army and air force museum (Museo del Ejercito y Fuerza Aerea Mexicana), and is free.

The motor is not an rotary, and not from Deperdussin, it is an Zea motor that powered pioneer mexican airplanes.

Cheers.

We should all do so well.............

Thanks for the time that you spent to see

As may mexixican aviation fans say "Looks like the history forget the fact that Madero was the first President who flew for first time, even in Mexico, many people do not know it".

Cheers.
