Hi guys, RLM Colors are driving me nuts... Not sure what to do.

I would prefer to find some RLM 70/71 in acrylic form. I am thinking of using pollyscales and adjusting it slightly to my tastes. Do you guys think that it's a good start?
I use Vallejo for my panzer colors and light blues, but I doubt they have anything nice for RLM 71/70.

I want an acrylic because I do most of my airbrushing in my bedroom with the windows open. I don't want to use enamels.

This 262 trainer was painted in Vallejo. I think I did an okay job of matching RLM 80/81? I think thats what I was shooting for... still have to memorize all my RLMs. lol
Thanks for any help you guys can provide for RLM 70/71!!!
Also, if you have used pollyscales RLM70/71, could you post a picture of it?

I just use Tamiya acrylic paints. They have a problem. Many RLM must be made from mixtures.

RLM 70 - XF-27

RLM 71 - XF-62 (1) + XF-49 (1).

I hope this helps.

Have you tried using Gunze Sangyo colors? Their acyrlic Mr Hobby paints has a wide range of RLM colors.

This Bf 109E-4 was painted completely using Gunze Sangyo. The wings are RLM 70 and 71.

Now, I have not used much other than Vallejo. How well do Tamiyas work? Easy to thin, what do I thin them with, Ect?

I think I might try this first.

Not sure where to buy Gunze paints.

You can get most if not all RLM colours premixed from the Testors Model Master Acrylics and Xtracrylix ranges.

While the Military Masters Acrylic is a good line, good colors, and sprays well, I have found it does not like masking tape, even the tamiya stuff. Tends to come up easy. But I must say most of their colors are bang on, and I use then when there is no masking required.

I see. What about Tamiya tape? I find it works pretty good because it's not really sticky.

Yes, I have even had issues with the tamiya tape. It has been hit and miss for me when it comes to peeling up, I just try to avoid having to tape MM Acrylic.

Vallejo most certainly do a complete range of RLM colours. You need to get their great airbrush range called "Model Air". RLM 70 is product number 71.021 (Schwartzgrun) and RLM 71 is product number 71.015 (Dunkelgrun)

Gunze have a complete range of RLM colors in both acrylic and enamel. I use both but mostly acrylic. And I swear by Tamiya masking tape. I never use anything else and have never had any troubles with it peeling paint off.

Have you tried priming the model before shooting your colour onto the kit and then masking? the primer should acts as a etch to the plastic and also allows the paint to grab the primer so when you mask it should help to prevent the paint lifting. Applying the paint directly to the smooth plastic just asks for the paint to be lifted if it can't etch itself to the plastic.

As for the colour I can recommend the Gunze range of paints also. Xtracrylics are good and are gloss ready but I find it hit and miss getting the right thinning ratio (even with their own thinner) and air pressure.

Where can I buy them in the US? Perhaps online. The LHS does not stock them.
