Hi all .. Iv read a lot about weathering with artists oil paints and how to achieve good results and i would like to try it on my next project. Im sure that Raw umber is a must have color but what other colors would you recommend ? i model all kinds of subjects from ww1 right through to the modern era so im looking for a general collection of paints ..
Thanks very much for your help
Happy modeling

Well I've never used oils but I've seen Burnt Sienna and Black mentioned many times.

It's all about the colours the aircraft was surrounded by. So lamp black, paynes grey, yellow ochre, a little vermillion for hydraulic fluid and any other earth tone you can think of for the place and time your aircraft occupied.
Most times you're going to be mixing small amounts of various colours together to achieve your goal so don't forget tianium white to lighten things up as needed. You really couldn't be worng with buying a basic beginner's set of oils and going wild with the mixing to see what comes out.
When once you have tasted flight you will walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward.
For there you have been, and there you will always long to return.
