Hi,
I know there are a multitude of techniques for rigging aircraft, but I am interested in knowing what everyone thinks is the BEST method hands down for rigging 1/72 scale aircraft..

I myself do 1/48 and invisible thread painted black works great for me. Also for more modern biplanes, .010 x.020 strip styrene works great.

Not sure how this would work in 1/72 though.

Hi Jim , nice to hear from you !

I do it the same way I rig 1/48 scale . Wire hopes with q-tips and smoked thread . I have tired the through the wing method and don't care for this . Line breaks and the clean up is a bit

Hi Terri, yes its been a while..Ive been caught up in real life quite a bit...trying to get a career happening again here after the big crash...

Ive used doll hair to good effect in 1/48, however I found I had to double up the strands to get it to look"scale"to me.
Im wondering if wire connection rings might look a bit over scale? or perhaps Im thinking too much...
I have a couple of 48 scale projects under works right now, and Im researching for a 1/72 kit thats on its way to my door..a fairey Campania, its resin and sweeeeet..

hi Jim
I will be rigging 1/72 seaplanes!
What would the real world diameter of the wires be?
Any info would be a great help.

Hi Jim If you can find some very fine wire and smaller the .80 drill bit wire hoops work very well . Just depends on the materials are beening used . I've tried my own hair which looks pretty good , it is weak . I now use smoke invisible thread for the rigging in 72 and 48 scale .

The wire from those head phones for your I-pod you can pick up from a dollar store type place works like a charm

Nice to see you still at the bench !

I use 0.006" stainless steel wire from Smallparts.com. It is very stiff so doesn't get kinks in it from accidental touches. Measure the gap with dividers, cut with a scalpel on a hard service (I use a ceramic tile). Attch with white PVA glue.

Im still at it yeah, doing up the resin kit of the Fairey Campania, the techmod FF33, the Lloyd c.V, and the Sierra scale Hansa Brandenburg..
I kinda took a break from biplanes to learn what I could about painting from the treadheads......back now

it is like heaven expressed in resin form...seriously ...great detail...nice castings..typical cottage industry instructions, but easy to interpret with experience. I am currently waiting for parts and tools to replace the resin struts with brass..
