Does any one know of a quick way to tell which 1/48 Hasegawa F-4 Phantom kits have raised panel lines and which have scribed ones?
I recent acquired one of the Hasegawa F-4s at a non-trivial price and was rather dismayed to find it had raised panel lines when the other two I have have scribed ones.
I would rather not repeat that mistake...

Hasegawa’s F-4C/D and F-4B/N have always been raised panel line F-4 kits since they were released in early 83. An F-4J was also part of that original family of 48th Hasegawa F-4s, but a new tool (not a retool as some speculate) was made in the 88/89.
The early raised Panel line F-4J boxing looked like this:
Just by that style of boxing, you can tell it’s an 80s era Hasegawa kit. This is important to know as Hasegawa later released the same box for its recessed panel line F-4J in the later 90s.
The new tooled F-4J was initially released in the Showtime 100 markings of Cunningham.
Here’s a good Hasegawa f-4 kit listing that should be of some real use:

I'll second that, great info.
I was aware that F-4B/N kits had raised panel lines but on checking the link you supplied I can now go and look for one of three retools with engraved panel lines.
Thanks
