I think that this better explains what this thread is about.
This diorama is going off in so many different directions that I thought that I had better explain what I am doing here.Basically it is about a new way of looking at dioramas.Dioramas that have many storylines contained within them, from the obvious to the more obscure.Dioramas that can be looked at as a purely visual experience to one that requires a little thinking by the viewer.
A good diorama has been said to be one where the viewer "gets it" right away and is obvious in nature. Here I am challenging that idea a bit.I believe that a good diorama is one that you can look at for a long time and still have something new to see.Neither one of these ideas is new in itself but bringing both ideas together in a single diorama ,containing a series of vignettes that are strung together to form a storyline is new and different and is one that I call "Storyboard Dioramas".

One more the Homecoming thread, or you spam your own thread.

I love your dioramas. But with this type of diorama , with a lot of stories, it is always dangerous lose the basic point and get lost in the crowd . I do not want to teach a teacher , I'm just curious how you gonna deal with that. Waiting for progress
P. S. I hope you understand my ENG.

Hi Dani ! you are right ,you walk a fine line with this type of diorama. But once you get your viewers attention ,hopefully with a little effort on their part, they will get the message. These dioramas are really meant for a museum type setting where some audio/visual tools could be used to great advantage.Cheers! John.

HMS Victory in the window.
I plan a dark paneled or dark painted wall as a backdrop for this model. When I get the sails on it will be much more recognizable as a ship model.

Normally a bleached bone prisoner of war model would not have sails but I decided to add some fake linen ones to mine to better identify it as a ship in the window.Later I will make a nice wood stand for it.The model is 1/600 in scale.

Now I will build the Henderson 1912 motorcycle.I haven't yet quite decided whether or not to make a little vignette out of it to add to the storyboard of this diorama.Showing the engine being removed in order to be modified for use in an aircraft might be a good idea,if I can think of a good way of making the connection in the viewers mind.

I have decided that the junk yard will instead be a lumber yard, something that is not often modeled and fits in a lot better into my storyline.

With a little work this dollar store bird house will become a small garden shed for tools.

I made a trailer for liquids(fuel, oil, water with some parts I had lying around however now I can't find a good spot to put it in the diorama. There is always a danger of just having too much going on and I think that I have reached that point.Too bad I kinda liked that little wagon.
The motorcycle is finished and ready for installation and I have found the perfect spot for it near the shop.It will be shown with the engine being removed for testing as a in-line air-cooled aircraft engine .Curtis was a pioneer in using motorcycle engines in light aircraft so this little vignette fits right in to the storyline.

This is the piece that I am trying to find a home for,Maybe if I tone it down a bit I can find a spot for it.

I still haven't found a composition that I can say that I am truly happy with.As usual it is proving to be the most difficult aspect of diorama making to get right.Changing the storyline in mid stream has just made it a little more challenging than usual.
To keep the interest of the viewer I have had to broaden the scope of this diorama from a single simple theme to one which is much more complex. In doing so it is really easy to lose sight of the forest for the trees. When is enough, enough ? When would adding just one more thing be too much ? I think that I have gone beyond this point already and have had to eliminated a few things in order to tighten things up a bit.
A good example of this is a few recent additions and subtractions that I have made to this diorama.
The motorcycle idea is a great addition as it is placed in the diorama in such a way as to add interest without being too obvious. It is situated around the corner of the garage right up close to the viewer and neatly fills in an area that was pretty boring before,a blank wall. The ship in the window works because it is a kind of 'Wow" factor that is unexpected by the viewer.
On the other hand the fuel cart adds nothing to the story and really seems out of place. The model T roadster is much the same,a distraction from the main event and therefore it too has also been eliminated.

OK I think that I have finally got it !Splitting the yard in two with another fence would be a mistake, the open concept is much better for viewing .The last element will be a nosy neighbor peeking out from behind one of the curtains.Where you see piles of Popsicle stiks will be replaced with lumber piled in different sizes and types.
