Hi all,
Recently finished this diorama of an Irish Air Corps Dauphin carrying out rescue at sea to ship in distress.
Kit used was the Trumpeter Dauphin with the Fireball modelworks Conversion kit and Decals from the excellent Max Decals collection.
SAR helicopters take a huge beating when exposed to the elements at sea during rescue ops so I wanted to show a weathered heli that had been on many an operation.
The Sinking Ship is the old Revell US Navy Swift Patrol Boat with a few add ons and weathered with Mig Pigments rust and smoke set.
The sea effect was sculpted with pollyfiller and painted with Humbrol 145 blue, 105 green for the shadows and Matt white for the sea crests and given several coats of future floor polish to enhance the water effect.
The downdraft affect from the Helicopter wash was done by drybrushing circles of matt white and then brushing on Mig Pigment powder for that blurry look.
Figures are converted from the Hasegawa Carrier deck crew, pilots are from same.
The harness on the Winchman is scratchbuilt using strips of tamiya masking tape and painted sky blue.
Build duration was 5 months.
Enjoy the pictures and all feedback welcome.
Thank you and Enjoy
