Hi - the camo scheme for the Airfix Sunderland has Humbrol 123 for the grey and 102 for the green. Now I looked on Paint 4 Models and the nearest for the grey would seem to be Vallejo Model Air Dark Sea Green or Tamiya XF 24 and I figured Tamiya XF 81 RAF Green (2)
Have I got this right??!
Thanks
Chris

Here's an article on Coastal Command camouflage. Sunderlands were in Temperate sea scheme over white. Temperate Sea Scheme was Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey

Here are mixes suggested by Roy Sutherland (the guy who does Barracuda Decals)

Extra Dark Sea Grey:- To 50 parts of XF24 (dark grey), add 6 parts XF2 (white), and 3 parts XF8 (flat blue).
Dark Slate Grey:- To one bottle of XF22 (RLM Grey), add 35 drops of XF7 (red), and 125 drops of XF1 (flat black).

Depends how accurate you want the colours to be. Humbrol 123 is Dark Sea Grey not Extra Dark Sea Grey but the difference is small. Humbrol 102 is Army Green not Dark Slate Grey but a reasonable match. Xtra Color and White Ensign Models have the exact colours in their ranges but they are enamels.

Dark Slate Grey - Xtra Color X25, Model master Authentic 2056, Vallejo Model Air 71013, Agama B8M Polly S 505266 Humbrol H102 Revell 45.

Extra Dark Sea Grey Hobby Color H333, Mr Color C333, Model Master Authentic 2059, Model Master Acrylic 4752, Model Mater Enamel 1723, Vallejo Model Color 867/164 Vallejo Model Air 71048, Life Color UA109, Agama B7M, Xtra Color X005, Humbrol H123, Revell 32174, Polly S 505264, Tamiya XF24.

Ok many thanks for this - so its two shades of grey effecrtively for the camo rather than the green I thought it was? Or am I missing something!

Dark Slate Grey is more of an olive green colour than grey, easily mistaken for Olive Drab.

Hi Chris,

Here's a useful site; they show the Brits had four sea schemes from 1940 to 1945:

Hi Chris,
The only other consideration would be how much to lighten the base colors to account for scale. I personally lighten 1/72 scale aircraft by anywhere from 15% to 25% based on the environment the real aircraft likely operated in. Just my opinion, the colors suggested earlier are really good, also in my opinion. Take care,
Jim.
