Hi Russell,
Those bases really set your models off!
If they demand your loyalty, give them integrity; if they demand integrity, give them your loyalty.--Col John Boyd, USAF

Bases look great! What is the grass material, it looks very convincing?
I hear that a display case will keep the dust off models

Thanks Doug for your kind words. The grass is from Woodland Scenics, it is called fine turf burnt grass. The sand is from Scene Rama. I found both at HobbyLobby, a National chain I believe. Very easy and more convincing to me than the grass which comes mated already to some paper like material. Russell

Here is the Consolidated B-24L Liberator. Since I was going to make a new base, I risked pulling off the nose section which was lightly glued on with Zap Gap glue. I stuffed the area behind the cockpit full of lead weight almost till it met the top turret!! The aircraft model actually sits on its landing gear, including nose wheel for the first time since it was build a couple of years ago. I was lucky nothing broke. Take a look. Russell

P.S. Glad I didn't decide to fill what is a noticeable line between the two parts, the fuselage aft of the cockpit and the nose section! It doesn't look as good as if I had filled it I guess, but I was curious when I built the model as to how well the two sections would mate together.

Thanks to everyone who has looked. Making bases is almost as fun as making the model aircraft!

Here is the Junker 88C "solid nose" on it's new base. Enjoy. Russell

Well, put out to pasture, or so is the idea, a USAir McDonnell-Douglas MD-80. Ejoy. Russell

P.S. This kit had the worst decals of any I have ever built! It took me three, count them, three decals sheets with decal preservative on them to cobble together what I got, I'm still not happy with it.

An Academy Bell P-39 Airacobra. I just recently got rid of some peripheral silvering on the decals by applying some Solvaset softening/setting agent to them. After a couple of times the decals, even after a considerable period of time, seemed to respond to the treatment. Russell

Hi there Gary, thank you for the kind words about my bases. I live in an apartment here in Tennessee, so I have to be imaginative about where I keep my models. I have about ten on a chest of drawers. I have some on top of my refrigerator and I have some on another chest of drawers in the bedroom. Room is always a premium I think, no matter where you live; unless you have a house where you can devote a room to displaying your work. Russell
