Hello. Just started Tamiyas Me262 and was wondering if anyone can tell me what color would work for the exhaust nozzle. Tamiya calls for a mix of flat red and metallic gray. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wingman out.

This will take some thought. If it is a new machine a sooty black for the fuel was quite poor. Another though would be to use steel and add a drop of black, brown to give it a slightly weathered/tarnished look. Some suggestions. Have fun in building it.

Thanks Trevor. This will be parked in my attempt at a reventment[I think I spelled that right]. I will try steel with a dark wash. Thanks for the help, Wingman out.

Color photographs have shown the Me 262 exhaust nozzles a tan-gray color.
A factory fresh Me 262 would have metallic colored exhaust nozzles.

Thanks for all this info guys, this will be an aircraft that has seen some service so it looks like a tan/gray color is needed. The cannon bay is just about done. Snapped right into place. The bulkhead in back has to be attached yet, it was just gloss coated and waiting for some decals. I will try to fix those hollowed out barrels. It's amazing what the camera picks up. Anybody know where I can find some walkaround photos of this plane? Thanks for looking and the help, Wingman out.

Hey Wolf! I have been building Me262's in 1/48 scale for over 20 yrs and have 18 completed models. I also have a web page ( http://scalemodels.webs.com/theme262in148scale.htm )
Now about walk-around photos: I have tons of photos that I have collected over the years. And I have lots of favorites saved. Here's one that popped up for the 2-seater: http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2002/04/stuff_eng_detail_me262b.htm#links

And a few more:

One more thing: you're from Pennsylvania? Me too. I don't live there anymore. But do you remember this place...

Hi Michael

You can hopefully find a few useful shots in our walkaround of the Me 262 that I shot at the RAF Museum:

http://gallery.kitmaker.net/showgallery.php/cat/21827

There are some views of the exhaust nozzles that should help give some idea of the colour (but, of course, remember that the Jumos probably haven't been fired-up for 50-odd years):

There's also a series of shots of a sectioned Jumo 004 in pristine (restored) condition:

All the best

WOW, thanks guys! It's a one stop shop for 262 info here on Aerocale. Greatly appreciated. I think I'm going to go with Tamiya's Metallic Gray for the cone on the intake, one of these engines will have the debris cover in place. Stephen, I remember Willow Grove, I took my son there awhile back for an airshow, we saw the Blue Angels and then an A-10 Warthog demo, I enjoyed the A-10 demo better. Thanks for the walkaround photos Merlin, didn't know Aereocale had 'em. Thanks, Wingman out.
