I am in need of help with the exhaust on a Bf 109F, at the moment I am at the point to paint the exhaust on an Airfix 1/48 109, but am baffled by the arrangement. Are the exhaust seperate from the shroud above them or are they all one assembly. Photos would be much appreciated.

They appear to be separate, but closely associated. Here's a -G with the cowlings open. It appears to me that the shroud attaches above the exhaust pipes or perhaps behind them.

The stubs were seperate and each was attached by three studs visible in this picture of a G-2 (close enough to an F ) having an engine change.

Different stubs could be used in different installations as in this DB 601 from a He 111.

Here is the real thing, actually from a DB 605.

The exhaust stubs on Luftwaffe aircraft were treated with a product called "Kernick Black",something like the stuff people used to treat their stoves with.
