Vintage Wings of Canada have been playing with their new Huck starter. The starter was built for Vintage Wings' Hawker Fury which will soon be flying again. Since no operational starters exist in Canada anymore, it basically had to be re-invented based on drawings, photographs and another starter in the UK which was recently rebuilt.

I have a white metal Huck somewhere in my stash I will use in a Dio.

Have been kicking around an idea of building a Model T hucks starter. I've been looking for a kit of this, in whatever scale I can get, but have yet to find one, which seems a tad add, as the hucks starter was used during WW1.

I wouldn't mind building one in 1/48, as that is the scale I'm most comfortable with, but also because it might make for a nice diorama.

Here is the Merlin Model set#5 Huck's Starter i picked up in the mid 80's


Merlin made Air craft kits in white metal and plastic.

That can't possibly be a Merlin kit. It looks buildable!

Hopefully the Fury will be flying next year at the Airshow, I am still waiting to see the Swordfish fly, seems everytime the show rolls around it is grounded again.

Is there a kit of the Hucks starter in 1/32?

If not, are there any drawings which are detailed enough for a scratch build project?

After I read the seeder post to this thread, and posted my reply, I began to think about looking for a Model T kit in 1/48.

I couldn't find one in that scale, but did find a 1915 Model T in 1/32.

It is the Lindberg kit of the Model T Couplet.

While the kit has a shiny brass plated radiator frame and the bucket for driver and passenger, it still looks doable when compared against photos of the Hucks Starter version, which is why I'm asking about the availability of detail drawings, if any.

While I do prefer 1/48, I am also comfy with 32nd, as there are "kite" kits available in that scale.

RPM Models has a pair of Model T ambulance kits which may be converted. I'm not completely certain whether they've been released yet, but HLJ has them listed in stock in their catalogue.

The Master Model maker Harry Woodman did an article in one of the first Vol. of Model Aircraft Monthly (now Model Aircraft) on the Huck Starter.
