I've got a 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D kit waiting to be built, and I'm gathering all the materials that I'll need, and need to know what color or color mixture would be the best using the Tamiya Acrylics line. I airbursh all my kits, and having a two year old, acrylics are a must.
I plan on making a small vignette/diorama of the Corsair coming into land on an island airstrip after a mission, just need to track down the proper color to use, and also a 1/48 scale Corsair pilot...

Hello:
It's Matter of taste... The right color is the XF-17, but it's too much dark... at the final looks like a black Corsair... And considering the sun and the salt of the soth pasific...
I put some drops of X-4 Sky Blue and XF-23 Light Blue, in difrent panels and surfaces...
May be my Corsair ends a little beat lighter than it must by... You can decide about... It's a matter of taste...
Take a look at "Hangar Queen 2", page 14... Or Vote for me in November MOM if you likes my Corsair...
Bye
Diego

Diego - that Corsair is amazing! As for the color, I found this app, iModelKit, on the Apple App store (not sure if it's available for Android devices) but it has a paint mixer tool to show the proper ratios to mix just about any paint brand to get another shade, so I found the proper ratio to make the proper FS color from the '40's.

Hi SSgt, you hold the rank or similar rank to my dad in WW2. He was a Marine in the Pacific, he went to Roi-Namur, wounded on Saipan, turned 21 on Iwo Jima. Anyway, back to the Corsair.
I would go with something other than Tamiya paints. I exclusively use acrylic paints as well for safety reasons and wear a respirator as well for added protection. There are however two lines of acrylics I would make you aware of. Model Master has an Acryl line which you could find sea blue, the overall colors of a Corsair. Vallejo from Spain makes acrylics too.
Since it is an F4U-1D I would guess that it is overall sea blue. Otherwise it might wear the tri color scheme of white on the bottom, intermediate blue on the sides and sea blue on the top.
I hope this helps you out some. Take care, Russell
P.S. I just think that Model Master Acryl and Vallejo are easier to use. You need little thinner, I use water and I think they even clean up easier.

Wow the technology is great...!!! May be, some day I will buy an SmartFone...!!! But, For now, Apple is far far away from my budget...
Any way, if somebody knows about any aplication to download in a normal PC; Thats will be great for many people too...
Thanks again...

Hmm...maybe that can be something for some of the more technologically advanced individuals out there, a nice reference program for paint mixing and color swatches!
