Hi all. I just came across this site and could not live with myself if I didn't link it up here. TAKE A LOOK but make sure you have some time, there are 17 pages of brilliant shots from WWII and just prior.
Enjoy !
Cheers, D

But it looks so real ! Apart from the tailwheel, the lack of panel lines or rivets, the plastic driver . . . . ummm . . . by joves Watson, you may be right !!!

Damian,
What a find! Thanks!
There is a great deal of detail one can glean from these pix. For instance, the mud splattered all over the wing and fuselage of the Corsair.
At the risk of heresy, I noticed an aspect which runs contrary to today's modeling expectations of paint and finish: panel lines. Whether black-and-white or color photos, panel lines are mainly invisible. A few major ones can be faintly seen yet most wings and fuselages are big areas unbroken by panel lines. Yes, you can find an exception or two.
However, many wings and fuselages do show uneven finishes, scuffing, and spills. I think color modulation and/or shading and tinting of the base color makes a far better and authentic finish than does panel line shading.
