Hi All

Here is a project I finished earlier in the year, but only just got around to photographing it.

The kit is an Eduard Profipack 1/48th scale kit of the Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat. I t was built staright out of the box and finished in the markings of Lt. Alexander Vraciu in February 1944. The model has been weathered using acrylic paint, oil paints and powders.

Good work Mick, I built the kit a few years back and loved it.

How'd you get that really fine patina of chipping? A cropped old brush or something?

Sharp looking cat.

Just used small bits of sponge dipped in paint lightly and dabbed on some tissue to remove the excess paint. Then dab lightly on the model.

It's really good, looks like how these chipped in real life. The US navy had the best primer of all the combatants I think. They rarely chipped, and when they did it was little ones like this. More wearing away than chips really.

Wow, stunning!

My only critique is on the antennae wire—it's a little large. Next time try fine fishing wire colored with a black permanent marker. It gets great results and actually stands up to a slight knock pretty well (don't ask how I know.)

Here's how it turned out on my SBD...

Hi Samuel

I used some normal thread on the model when I first took these photos as that was what I had to hand at the time. But it has been replace with some invisible thread now and looks much better.

Thanks for you comments.

Mick,
Your F6F-3 is just outstanding. Love the weathering, as it really has that "used but not abused look". I particularly like the dirt stains down the sides of the fuselage, as well as the oil/carbon stains on the front of the lower cowling. Just really nice touches.

My only issue as I was viewing your pictures was the out of scale antenna wire, which is also frayed. Samuel has already addressed that issue, and you've corrected it.

Thanks for taking the time to post your work.

Wow, I REALLY need to get my glasses checked. Joel's going on about antennas and I cant even see an airplane in the picture.

(Actually I'm getting the broken picture icon.....8^()

Thanks Guys

I need to get some new photos taken of this, but that will join the queue of other more recent finished models that need to have photos taken for my website. I've got nine models waiting to be done plus one the Spitfire that's nearly finished to. Not enough time in the day!

Turned out great Mick. Well done. It's a nice kit isn't it, I've started the F5 version myself and yours has really inspired me to get cracking and finally finish it.

These Eduard kits are very nice to build, got a couple of P39's and FW190's, a B24, a BF110 and the Bunny Fighter Club MiG21. All are in 1/48th except for the B24.
