A long-awaited accurate late war Typhoon kit in 1/72 is already here. Ben Micklem takes a look at the box content.

Just to add a few more details:

I've since noticed that there are a couple more more omissions: the central landing light on the underside of the fuselage in line with the trailing edge of the wings is missing (this area looks same as the Academy kit).

Also the panels for the hand and foot holds on the starboard side of the fuselage outside the cockpit are missing.

I've been in contact with Chris Thomas about the HH-T markings, as I had no photos of that aircraft, and Brengun seemed to have used the same 'Camouflage and Markings: Typhoon' drawing as the reference for this (as they did for 18-P, and ended up copying the erroneous serial for that one). Anyway, here's what he had to say:

"I have a shot of SW564 but it is port side from below and towards the front. It shows 'T' and also the striped inner u/c door - red/yellow/red. Spinner would have been red with yellow backplate and intake 'T' red on yellow or vice versa [BM: Chris is referring to markings on the front of the cuckoo-doors here]. Never seen a photo of the alleged name. Certainly not April 45 - it arrived on the squadron 10 May 45 or during the preceding week. The spinner markings were not applied until 16 May."
