Hi all,
between my figures works i'm modeling my first helicopter. I took the good Italeri kit to make one of the US navy'HRS which went to Korea during the war.
Here is the box :
and the content:
The kit is good but the part which take place under the engine, so i'll scratch this aera:
this...
instead of this...
I first filled the hold with some stucture elements:
then i covered the windows
and then i began the engine aera scrathbuilt:
i took an old R-2800 from a P-47 wreckage for the (most invisible !) R-1340
It fits !
Well now i'm in brean storming to find a way to scratch the green part which enclose the engine, maybe i'll use green stuff..., if you have any idea....
Cheers,
nico

Great additions, I follow this with interest as I have the same kit. I am curious how the blue will turn out.

Perhaps you could use the upper end of a small plastic bottle for the shroud around the engine?

Hi all,
well, i made some progress since the last message.
I finally managed to finish the engine scratch built with an old engine hood which i took from a kit wreckage of my owns.
I also scratch built the engine supports
Here are some pics of the finished interior
Closed
I also worked on the hood door which will be open:
I just forget a metal plate which hide the door bottom, so i fixed it and have to do again the weathering (in progress)...
50's USNavy dark sea blue paint bench
Checked if the engine fits well.....it does !
Propellers paint
light grey for the top, dark grey for the underneath (the difference of color was to facilitate the maintenance work)
And finally, a problem with a little piece which takes place under the rotor. It, normally, has 4 pins but here it has just....2
So i took my Evergreen rods to fix it
That's all for today, the next steps will be for the end of the paint work, decals and weathering....
Cheers

Great build, Nico.
You added some cool details and it shows. It gives the bird a very different profile and feel to it.
Thanks for sharing

Great engine compartment! To bad the decals look a bit off register...Have you tried to fix it with a fine brush?

Hi,
thanks a lot Eirik
I would like to fix that damn' decals but i did not yet....i'm scared to make the things worth than they already are..... .....in fact, i did not decided whether to increase the weathering (weather was so bad then in Korea) in order to hide the decals or to cut off the white defaults with extra-fine modelling knife....
cheers
