Hi,
Took some pics of my Airfix 1:48 Lightning. As it will be in natural metal finish, I just completed polishing the thing... I used that set MicroMark carries, the sponge like sanding pads... think I developed RSI polishing with 2400, 3200, 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000 grit and after that Novus - light scratch remover and finishing with Novus... er, in the blue bottle... whatever
Some pics are a bit blurry - my apologies, I had to take the pics with my left hand while holding the model with my gloved right
The CMK tailplane didn;t fit, so I used some polystyreen sheet to fill the gap
I experimented on on of the tailplanes first - polishing it then airbrushing Testor Metalizer - not satisfied yet (you can see I rubbed through it on the top right), also it is curently 13 degrees C on the attic - not perfect spraying conditions
what do you think
I am using the Flightpath superdetail set (and some other aftermarket stuff)
Best regards,
Sidney

Hi Sidney
Nice job on the polishing. :-)
Your test on the tailplane looks great. Are you going to try to vary the finish on different panels?
It should look awesome when finished...
All the best

Sidney, thanks for the pics (and keep them coming) maybe if you do a full report on the Lightning, I will actually get round to opening the 3 large boxes on the shelf and the various packets of PE which were bought with them.... The various producys which are available (Allclad etc.) are rapidly re-awakening my interest in this, the most beautiful of post-war fighters, keep at it Sidney! Jim

boy, I wish I could have heard a Lightning take off on full-throttle
took some pics at the beginning of this project , was planning to write a little article for www.aircraftresourcecenter.com
gonna try and airbrush the panels free-hand #:-)

Sidney, I don't live in the UK.. When I was a kid I used to go to airshows at RAF Leuchars where they had Lightnings based, the sound of a Lightning on full afterburn is something one never forgets....Jim
