Mojo, that's some nice work! Impressive detail sets for the next build too.
I can't wait to jump into this campaign-- but no time and no kit just yet. Plenty of time before August 31, right?

Hi Guys,
I see the usual suspects are here which is a good thing
I will attempt my 1st helo in over 30 years with this small kit
 photo P1070600_zps5b6c305b.jpg
Not many parts so it should be a quick build but I am going to try a tri-color USMC camo job
Hope to start it by the end of the weekend

Woops, tripping over myself.
I meant to tell MSCorley what good work, but got Mojo's starting photo confused in there.
Anyway, just general nice work all around.

Hi Everyone. This is my first post.

Quite new here even when I have been checking the forums for sometime. Having some problems to upload photos to the campaign thread, please point me to some newbie tutorials that I may have missed. (I uploaded the photo to my workbench and then link it here, not sure that is the right way to do it.)

Anyway. Here we go with my entry. A Eurocopter Tiger from Revell in 1/72. I will build the French HAP version.

More progress on My Eurocopter Tiger HAP.

Interior OOB. Very little detail but I am assuming very little could be seen once the canopy is closed.

I haven't used Revell plastic for a while but I'm finding it difficult to work. With good detail and hard but brittle. And it does show every minimal scratch. I am hopping that Vallejo primer will cover all of those...

This was one of the times when I missed one of those micro sanding sponges:

Check your drug store in the nail care section. There are all sorts of fine sanding and polishing sponges which work as well for styrene as they do for fingernails.

That sounds like a plan for tomorrow. I need the exhausts clean before the primer...

Quick update of the Eurocopter Tiger. Main paint job done. I am very pleased with the camo but the photo is horrible.

I always wonder if it is OK to leave the canopy masked for a few days while decaling and doing the oil washes, or if it is best to remove and remask the canopy for the mat coat at the end. Any suggestions on this?

Carlos,

Personally, I would leave the masking on until the decals and washes are done, if you varnish or put a clearcote on over everything at the end, do this, then I would remove the masking finally and touch up any paint as necessary.

When I do this it tends to work out fine, but every now and then it can pull off bits of paint here and there so what I do now is just gently go round the tape again with a sharp craft knife just to ensure that the masking will come off cleanly, you have to be gentle and very careful not to slip or damage the paint etc, but it's not too difficult.

The problem I find with removing immediately after paint is that the clear parts can get dirty or can lose some of their transparency if covered in clearcote etc, so I try to leave the masking on as long as possible.

Rich

P.S. - I have just purchased a revell eurocopter tiger as well as a revell super cobra AH-1W for this build, I think I'll do the german version of the tiger, to compliment your french version, as there already a couple of super cobras being done.

Thanks Rich, I have decided to do that. I will try to go with a sharp nice around as the last time I pulled some paint from the frames. Why has it never occurred to me?

I have to say that affecting the clear parts won't matter much in this case as I have made a bit of a mesh of the canopy. I was trying to reduce a small distortion in the canopy but I ended up with the same distortion and a slightly cloudy canopy. Next time I will be more laborious.

I am looking forward to see your German version. I have bought another one to make the Spanish version but I need to think about how to get the decals.

Sal, good tricolour camo. Glad to see that we are progressing in parallel. I have now the decals drying so, unless I make a big mesh, I will finish this weekend.

So,

Here are my entries, I wasn't sure which one I'd do, so I'll probably do both.

Some progress shots,

First the Tiger;

Now the Super Cobra;

Both are good kits and go together quite well, there is some sanding and filling required on both especially around the main fuselage seems, but nothing too complex.

I will update further once they are painted.

Rich, They both look great. Looking forward to see your progress.

I have just finished my Tiger HAP but I am not happy at all with the canopy. Next build I will make it better.

Well, I am going to take my Eurocopter Tiger HAP (1/72 Revell) as finished.

Very happy with the camo, happy with most of the things but not happy at all with the canopy that is a bit cloudy. I will try to improve that in my next model.

Ooh-rah, some outstanding constructs. I love the camo on the Cobra and Tiger.
Time for me to get started on this project. I have a RAH 66 to build. It has one little problem that I discovered after I bought the kit.
