Mojo, that's some nice work! Impressive detail sets for the next build too.

This was one of the times when I missed one of those micro sanding sponges

Check your drug store in the nail care section. There are all sorts of fine sanding and polishing sponges which work as well for styrene as they do for fingernails.

Personally, I would leave the masking on until the decals and washes are done, if you varnish or put a clearcote on over everything at the end, do this, then I would remove the masking finally and touch up any paint as necessary.

When I do this it tends to work out fine, but every now and then it can pull off bits of paint here and there so what I do now is just gently go round the tape again with a sharp craft knife just to ensure that the masking will come off cleanly, you have to be gentle and very careful not to slip or damage the paint etc, but it's not too difficult.

The problem I find with removing immediately after paint is that the clear parts can get dirty or can lose some of their transparency if covered in clearcote etc, so I try to leave the masking on as long as possible.

P.S. - I have just purchased a revell eurocopter tiger as well as a revell super cobra AH-1W for this build, I think I'll do the german version of the tiger, to compliment your french version, as there already a couple of super cobras being done.
