Yikes, I don't know much about this photo. Just stumbled on it, looks like this RAF Harrier was on vacation in America?

Even so, you have to use them just right or else you won't be walking home. Here's an in-cockpit video of one of the incidents described in that article. It's quite sobering to watch.
