some of you may remember Jean-Luc Formerys's article

The Dübendorf Brothers.

Well, shortly after we got to know each other personally and became good friends. He also gave me his conversion for this Bf 109V14/ E-0. I also managed to get Werners Wings conversion for this kit which has great decals and instructions, while the Resin parts are too small (sadly resin does shrink in the curing process). Floyd nontheless built his conversion into a nice model kit: Bf 109V14 @hyperscale

As I had no Tamiya Bf 109E at hand I decided to use a Hasegawa kit (I had some spares). As you may imaging this does not ease the conversion. Still you can see it is do-able, but requires some work --- and some more attention than I spent, but I only recognized it after the paint was on, so I will live with the mistake. (hence the topic title)












I hope you like it, despite being the ugly sibling of Jean-Lucs beautiful work.

Well, if you are on a budget and have a Hasegawa kit in the stack it can be done (as you can see) but I would not recommend it to anyone who has the Tamiya kit (the Eduard kit might be a better option too).

Well, thank you but it is not true in this case.

I bet J-L spots this mistake at first glance because it is really glaring.

Anyway the model is done and unless Eduard comes out with a BFC special or something similar, this won't be thrown away.

I found it, but I had to double check a reference to be sure, so it really isn't that bad. The model is nicely done otherwise

Just to point out the thing:





you see my nose clearly points downward .. .as I wrote I only noticed it when the paint was on. Somehow it gives an even more race-ish look but well, it bugs me even if it might be just 1 or 2 degrees

It's not that noticeable (I haven't noticed it in fact) and I think you did a great job considering that the nose was for the Tamiya kit in the first place...

Strange thing is: on later Bf 109Gs the engine was mounted angled downward

Ha! and here i thought it was the fact the the triangular window below the windscreen was painted over...

good spot! ... but I had just forgotten to remove the mask for the photos (it would have been an relativ easy fix as I use acrylics) ... I'll take some new photos on the weekend.

well, i can see how if I were the builder the nose kink would bother me, but while clearly there once it is pointed out it doesn't really stand out all that much at first glance.

On second thoughts - you're quite right, and how dare you sully our pages with such a monstrosity!

But seriously, this is like most "glaring errors" - it's only glaring to the person who built it, because you can't see past the fact that you know it's there. To the rest of us, yours is a model any of us would be proud of, and if you hadn't made such a fuss, 99% of people would never have even picked up on any supposed "kink" (and I'm still struggling to see what you're worried about...).

So today I had some better weather to take photos of the crate with all masks removed

P.S. as i will have to rework the picturs to make them government-friendly (here in G.) I ask myself (and you Rowan) if it is possible to put these somewhere on aeroscale... maybe some kind of photo feature you do not put on the frontpage?

Why shouldn't we put them on the front page? It's certainly worthy enough in my opinion.

well, if you have followed the thread you will notice that I am not fully satisfied with the build.

To avoid beating the dead horse any longer: I would like to save the pictures with the flag on the rudder for public viewing here and if you feel it is worthy for a feature on Aeroscale I would be glad to send them (or you take them from here)

As long as it's not sitting right beside one of Jean-Luc's models, I really doubt that the casual viewer would see the problem. We're all our own worst critics after all, because of the time and passion we invest in our building. I'd be delighted to put together a feature about it

As the feature is up I censored the pix for use on the IPMS Deutschland site.
