Next release in the popular "Fighting Units in Colour" series from AJ Press will be

THE 56TH FIGHTER GROUP
VOLUME 1. KINGS CLIFFE KINDERGARTEN- HALESWORTH HEYDAY

Peter Randall from Little Friends and Nigel Julian from the 56th FG website have joined forces and are making their publishing debut with a highly detailed account of the history of the 56th Fighter Group.
The 56th Fighter Group Museum at Halesworth have kindly opened their archives to the authors, and a great number of the photographs featuring in the book will be appearing in print for the first time. Added to this are photographs from their own personal archives and those of 56th veterans and veterans families making it an essential purchase for anyone with even a passing interest in this highly successful unit.

Thoroughly researched and highly detailed colour profiles painted by Zbigniew Kolacha are featured throughout the book, and many of the aircraft profiled are also appearing for the first time in print. The opportunity has also been taken to show some aircraft which have previously only been profiled incorrectly.

As with previous "Fighting Units In Colour" releases,a free decal sheet will be included with 1:72, 1:48th and 1:32 scales represented. It is the intention of the authors, space permitting, that most if not all the P-47s on the decal sheet will be making their debut to modellers.

The groups history is due to be covered in three volumes, and Volume 1 should be available in a few months.

Zbigniew, Peter and myself are really looking forward to sharing our efforts with you all.

The book we be available from all the usual outlets, and also direct from the 56th FG Museum at Halesworth.

Only last week we had a couple of photographs arrive from a veterans family that we are able to include in volume 1.

Hi Nige

..please do let us know when the book becomes available; the visit to Halesworth for the Open Day was one of the highlights of our trip up to Suffolk last year! The Polish Mustangs book in this book series is fantastic too

Things are moving swiftly now and after a long wait the book is almost done.

Tonight we have recieved proofs of the decal sheet, and while I'm not in a position to post a photograph of it just yet,( although its quite spectacular), there are 6 P-47's which will be included as 1:72,1:48th and 1:32 scale decals.

5 of these, to the best of our knowledge, have never been made available before, and 1 is appearing with the correct code letter and serial number for the first time.

They are,

P-47D-1-RE 42-7937 LM-Q "Triss" Pilot Anthony Carcione

P-47D-2-RE 42-22456 HV-N "Liberty Belle" Pilot Joseph Curtiss

P-47D-2-RE 42-7975 UN-I Artwork of a Texas state/cowboy hat. Pilot Raymond Petty

P-47D-6-RE 42-74643 UN-Hbar "Ole Puss" Pilot Carroll Wakefield

P-47D-11-RE 42-75410 HV-Mbar "Ole Cock" Pilot Donavon F Smith

P-47D-11-RE 42-75224 HV-Obar "Pengie II" Pilot Boleslaw Gladych

Watch out for further news as it becomes available.

Nige

I heard the other day that the decal sheet has gone off to the printers, which is a big step closer to the book being published.

Even more good news is that we were able to squeeze another one on there.

P-47C-5-RE 41-6330 UN-Z "Moy Tavarish" Pilot Hub Zemke.

More news as I get it myself.

Here's the decal sheet everyone.

Very low resolution and highly compressed for the purposes of this preview but absolutely stunning at full resolution.

The decals are in 1:72, 1:48th, and 1:32 scales.

All that's left is for the last few pieces are artwork to be finished, and that is taking forever I'm afraid but it's out of mine and Peters hands.

More news as and when we get it.
Feel free to email AJ Press and register your interest. It may help speed things up.

Just recieved the latest version of the typesetting for this.
All the artist profiles have been completed and the photos have been edited.
Who knows, it may find its way into publication sooner rather than later.
And you thought I was a slow builder lol.

Wonder if the announcement of another 56th FG book written by myself and Peter Randall has had anything to do with it??

Not to take issue with the experts but what about earlier schemes showing this A/C as LM*Z?

I'll take issue with myself because UN-Z was a typo.
The profile ( and decals) are for 41-6330 in its LM-Z guise.

We also found a "Moy Tovarisch 2", but that's another story

As for a publishing date?
On our experience so far,,,,,,not a clue

That was 20 months ago. Very soon you'll be able to advertise with the marketing fundamental - P-47, An Epic Story, Two Years in the Making!

Please end Part 1 with some form of conclusion; I may not live long enough to see Parts 2 & 3.

Just funning with you. Keep up the good work

Did I forget to mention that in the time we have been waiting for AJ Press to publish the book we finished working on ages ago that myself and Peter have written another book on the 56th for a different publisher, exchanged contracts, and its due for release in summer 2015?

Nigel,
Your 2nd book just might be published before the 1st one.
