Hi guys, I'm about to make a small order of styrene, the problem is I have no idea which profiles and shape to order.
I mostly do 1/48 and 1/72, and I have some sheets already.
Could anyone write the profiles and sizes they use the most, or find helpful.

Kind regards, Sven.

Hi Sven.
I have many profiles in my stash of styrene strip
The ones I tend to use most are:-
0.3mm square rod
2mm dia rod
0.25 X 1.5mm
0.05 X 1.65mm
0.76 X 1.52mm
3.2 X 4.8 mm
2.54 X 6.35mm
3.175 X 6.35mm
I also have channels and angles.
I hope this helps.

Sven, don't worry about getting the wrong thing, because you'll find yourself using everything you have.
Do make sure you get some small size stuff though, say the .56 x .84mm. (Mine is fractions of an inch, here in the USA) The bigger stuff can be cut from sheets or build up from smaller ones and imperfections aren't as noticeable. It's harder to accurately make the small parts yourself from cut-down stock.
I hope that helps.

Thanks to both, I'll try to find some of those. I would like to have lots of it for sure, but funds don't allow it currently.

Also, is there a big difference between Evergreen and Plastruct?

Kind regards, Sven.

Plastruct is made from ABS plastic while Evergreen is made from Polystyrene. Glues which work on Styrene may not work well for ABS. If you use Superglue the difference is not important.

Hello,

Nice topic...!

Thanks Jessica, it's good to know about ABS vs. Polystyrene; I usually glue with Cyano, so I never not the diference, But is good to know... Thanks..

Sven, I agree, the small ones are more important in 1/48 and 1/72... I use mostly 0.3mm & 0.5mm rots and Half-rots, AND 0.28x0.56mm, 0.56x0.56mm, 0.75x0.75mm Strips...

I'm learning how to use it, but it is pure FUN...!!!

Thanks

Just as a side note here- the Evergreen factory is just a few miles from my house. Been wanting to go pay a visit. Might do that Wednesday. JT

Hi!

Nice topic! Apart form Evergreen stripes in different sizes I also have Evergreen tubes in my stash (outer diameter 3mm).

When heated over a flame you can create very nice pitot tubes.

Generally I create various diameters by heating bigger stripes and profiles over a flame.

Plastruct is made from ABS plastic while Evergreen is made from Polystyrene.

Plastruct makes styrene shapes as well; I have several packs. Looking at their website, they seem to make shapes of several types of plastic: styrene, ABS, butyrate, acrylic, etc.
