My next build will be the P-51 flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. I have been able to find the color scheme. However, I can't find out whether the crimson tail was gloss, semi-gloss, or flat paint. Anyone know the answer to that one?

Thanks

I think it depended on how old and weathered the paint was. For your model, semi-gloss would probably be best.

Thanks, Jess. Since I'm really at a basic learning level I am going to stick with factory fresh schemes. Once I have those mastered I can branch out into weathering, dioramas, etc. I just purchased my first airbrush (Badger 360) and am still learning it. I love it so far, but just beginning.

Hi Dan,
Bear in mind that squadron/group markings were all applied in theatre and the quality and standard of finish varied greatly on the time available.
As a general rule of thumb, when group markings were first introduced they were more carefully applied than when replacement aircraft were hurridly painted. (Major generalisation there)
