I started a new project, it's an Arado Ar 96 B of the Hungarian AF but with mixed german-hungarian markings, Klagenfurt end of the war

From the box it's possible to meke both versions, A and B. The box and the content :

At the first stage I riveted the model and cut out all moving surfaces :

I love these under represented aircraft. Especially with the strange mish mash markings.

Well, here comes the cockpit. The manufacturer give it i resin and photo-etched combination but it's all wrong, and to be honest when I looked up in the documentations that I have it's not to detailed up too....So I had to scratch

Hi ! Moving surfaces which are made from fabric are very poor on the model, so I had no other option except to made by myself. For the first I made the rudder, it's made of styrene and a so called " Japan Paper " RC modelers used this material for wings on the gliders in the early days.

The cockpit is finished, I didn't payed too much attention to it , very little will be visible after the two half of the fuselage is glued together. Some detailing and weathering of the visible areas of the cockpit will be done in the late stages of building....

So, I joined the two halves of the fuselage. Well, the proper word to describe the fit is maybe disaster......

modellius, so far you've more then seem up to the challenge to build this kit to a higher standard then what's in the box. I like how you made the fabric flying surfaces. Simple, yet very effective. The cockpit also looks well done.

As for the fit of the fuselage, one would think that a manufacture must have test fitted the parts, and known how poorly they mat up. With the modeling skills you've shown so far, I'm sure that you will be able to over come the kits many short comings, and produce a unique, and well constructed replica.

Thank you Joel !

Well, the wheel bay is totally wrong, no details what so ever and apsolutely don't doesn't fit, so I have to scratch it.
What you find in the box :

Thank's Joel !

Well, this took some time, first I had to find out which hose goes where and then to make the " plan and order " of building the hydraulic system in the wheel wells, had to figure out where to start.....

The hydraulic system in the wheel wells :

I'd say "typical short run kit" rather than disaster. I'd also say that you're managing to overcome the kit's shortcomings in quite a masterful manner
It's a real treat to see the terrific work you're putting into this kit.

Hi ! I made some progress on my Arado, more detailing of the wheels wells :

Well to be honest the landing gear follows the quality of the model so I had to scratch it as well. The base is Evergreen styren :

The hydraulic on the landing gear have an leather protection which I also had to made. The first step was to put a few rounds of copper wire around the landing gear which will provide me the wrinkle :

Then I crease some chocolate paper to have better texture look, cut it on wanted sized and then glued over the wires. The clamps " holding " the leather on place are made from Tamiya masking tape :

And how does it looks so far :

Great work! Really nice job adding detail and enhancing that quite challenging-looking kit. Looking forward to see this kit come together.

Thank's !

The work continued, I joined the upper and lower halves of the wings and joined them with the fuselage, Well, I will not say to you anything, see it for your self :

The first phase is to fill the gaps with styrene :

Outstanding work of engineering Modelius!

You're doing a fine job improving a hard to tackle short run kit. Keep it up

Congrats on the work done so far

Cheers

modellius, you certainly have your work cut out for you. What an horrendous fitting kit, even for a limited production run kit. Looking forward to how you tackle all those issues.

This appears to be a difficult project, Modellius. You certainly seem to be working your way through it, though.
I do admire your perseverence and discipline. If it were me, I would have set it aside and reached for the Tamigawa kit.

You have a very interesting and instructional thread going on here. Well done!!

Hi to You all, I was away for a wile, hope You missed me , however I'm back with some progress on the Arado. All the moving/canvas surfaces are almost done, it's about 90% done, it just needs a little fine tuning.....

And finally, Mr Surfacer. And I was nicely surprised, there is not much putty needed to get it done , I see the light on the end of the tunnel
