Hi,
I am replicating a MK1 Hurricane in tropical camouflage from 127 squadron that my father served with from 1941- 1943ish, and I am confused as to the colour of the letters on the fuselage.Should they be ocean grey, white or sky? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Just Googleing a quick search shows me you've asked a difficult question. I can only find a few profiles of 127Sqn Hurricanes, and as you know, profiles are only an artists best guess.

With what little I could find, my best quess would be 'Sky' as the proper code color. However, you might want to send a note to Andy Ingham, and ask him. You may get a definitive answer here:

Sky is the least likely colour to have been used. At the beginning of the war codes were painted Medium Sea Grey which had been developed by the RAE in the mid-1930s for precisely that purpose. Sky was only used for codes on the Day Fighter Scheme (Ocean Grey/Dark Green) which replaced the Land Temperate Scheme (Dark Earth/Dark Green) in Europe. Hawker Hurricane in RAF and Commonwealth Service, Gary Madgwick, Jon Freeman; Hawker Hurricane 1939 to 1945 in RAF, Commonwealth and FAA service, H C Bridgwater; Britain Alone June 1940 to December 1941, Paul Lucas; all have many examples of Hurricanes in the Middle East with Medium Sea Grey codes, as well as White, Red and occasionally Black, but none Sky. Only Hurricanes operating in that theatre in the Day Fighter Scheme have Sky codes.
