Ok so just started on this in between other projects. Being a big Lanc fan, I thought it was only right and proper to build a Dambuster in their anniversary year.

And the goodies inside:

And the all important bits for the Dambuster:

Glazings I haven't taken them out of the bag for fear of scratching:

The decals and colour profiles:

There'll be more once I've started cutting plastic.

Nice to see markings for aircraft other than Gibson's. If you go by the number of models built over the years, the impression is that Gibson flew the raid solo. It would have been best of all if Airfix had offered serials and code letters for all the aircraft which took part in the raids.

I agree Jessica. And I believe there is a decal sheet coming out soon with options for all 19 Dambusters and also the special tail Tornadoes. Mine will be either Ken Brown's or Vernon Byers aircraft. Who were both Canadian, and being half Canadian a Canadian flown aircraft would be nice.

Hi
My Hasegawa Dambuster Lanc has decals for Gibson/Burpee/Ottely aircraft.
I will be watching this build and compare the two.

I'm not a big fan of Gibson. And I've already built Burpee's aircraft. I'm only interested in the Dambuster's Lancs flown by Canadians. This one will be Ken Brown's the next one will be Byers aircraft.

Started on the interior by adding the windows.

And the cockpit and spars. The dark grey represents anti-slip matting. I also scratched a handrail.

watching this one too, want to do one soon! I'm a little disappointed there aren't more decal options in the box, how difficult would it have been to add a few more codes, including Gibson's. Just read his bio, he went to school a few streets away from where I'm writing this..

The interior is all but done. I added added the wireless and transmitter from the spares box. The decal is from the kit, as is the map on the nav's table. The seat belt decals come from a Revell decal sheet.

Probably not to everyone's taste. But I like it.

A good read is "Lancaster Men" by Peter Rees. After finishing reading I went out and bought Revell's Avro Lancaster and purchased some Aussie decals!! It's in the stash ready to go.
