This is a hangar queen that I've had kicking around for far too long. It's the 1/144 Welsh Models vac/resin kit straight out of the bag.

The fuselage is Welsh's stock Convair 440/540 so the door outlines do not match the decals. I didn't notice that until it was time to put the decals on and by then it was too late.

That's a beauty! The Convair snout is well captured by the Welsh model form.
The decal work is perfect. and yes, Im squinting at the fillets around the engines and wingroots and dam, thats good work!

I can't take credit for the engines since they're moulded into the wings.

well, the tailplane fillets are also flawless.

do you think the switch to resin cast wings is an improvement to the Welsh model "experience"? have you found their resin parts measure up to the styrene?

The detail on the resin parts is superior to the plastic, which is saying a lot It's definitely more friendly to builders who don't have a lot of vac experience.

The wings on this kit got a bit warped in the bag, so every so often I have to dip the model in just-boiled water and straighten them out. This is the only Welsh kit I've had this problem with so I'll go out on a limb and say it's a one-off. The Tudor and Hermes I did a while ago don't have any warping problems, nor does the E-190 I have on the workbench.

thats good to hear. I am contemplating another order from Welsh soon, and they seem to be retooling everything with the cast wings.
Anyway, I dont know what everyone moans and groans about, I like cutting and fitting vacuform models. If you do it right, they fit perfectly every time, unlike many an injection molded catastrophe.

You've obviously never built a Combat Models kit

That looks like it's going to be an interesting adventure
Here's a look at the Welsh Models Comet 3 and Avro Tudor kits. This is pretty much what you can expect from current Welsh Models standards.

Wow! Jessica, great looking airplane. Vacu formed to boot! The only vacu form model I have ever tried was the spacecraft from the original Planet of the Apes movie. It came out alright, not as difficult as I thought. Of course that was more than 20 years ago. Hopefully I will work up the nerve to try another one sometime. Good work. Russell

You could do much worse than choosing a Welsh Models kit as your first vac airplane. They're complete kits with the detail parts either in white metal or resin, no need to scratchbuild the small parts.
