Hi Guys,
I have in my stash several Airfix kits.
The Arado Ar.196, Blohm & Voss Bv141, Fairey Battle and the Focke Wulf Fw189.
I'm wanting to add cockpit and wheel well detail.
At a minimum what should I purchase as far as styrene sheets and strips go.
ie:(010 x .020 strip)

Again TIA

Chris

Hi Chris,in answer to your question,how long`s a piece of string ?.
I have several different thickness in my stash so I can use them in different ways, thick stuff for building structures and thin for adding detail.
Murphy`s law will almost always guarantee that the thickness you need at that second will be out of stock at your local hobby store !

In addition to some basic strip stock (you hit it on the head already by mentioning .10x.20 strip, a staple size), if you can find it buy the 'assortment package' by Evergreen. It comes with various thicknesses of sheet, tube, rod, and square stock and is a good bang-for-the-buck solution to building up a supply of materials.

scratching building sizes will vary by what scale you're working in, and what you're trying to duplicate. Here's the basics I always have on hand. I'm also running down to my LHS and constantly buying other sizes, shapes, etc. as the application calls for.

rods .020, .025, & .035.
Tubes 1/8, & 3/32
Strip .011 x .033, to .060 x .156
Sheet .010, .020, & .040

Slaters also do a very good range of Plasticard from 5 thou upwards as well as strip, rod and MekPak adhesive.

You can always venture into the recycling bin if you need a new thickness. Margarine and ice cream tubs work. Aluminum cans are useful too, just don't waste fresh blades on them. Foil from wine, champagne and beer (Stella artois) is also useful. Cat whiskers make good antenna, (yes I have), bristles from toothbrushes and brooms give flexible thin bits that will always snap back to straight.

Yes as mentioned dont forget rod and tube as well. Plus get the assorted sheet set - you can turn them into any length and width you want if younhave the right thickness.

Half the skill is making a half assed job look seamless. Problem solving.
