Guy's I'm looking for any photo's and or drawings of the nose interior for the field modified B-25C's straffers carried out by Major 'Pappy' Gunn in the South West Pacific and used by the 3rd Attack Group, 5th Airforce.

Most had the glazing either painted over or the glazing replaced, just so happens the one I'm doing still had one panel of glazing in place.

Hi Littorio,

You are right, most had .50 cal. mounted on frames in the nose and the glass painted over.

Here are some.

Hi Fred, I have loads of photos and drawings of the externals of the strafers but I need the interior for the aircraft I'm doing which none of those links show.

Hi Luciano

I don't think I've ever seen a clear shot of the innards.

There are a couple of glimpses here: http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22504

I'll have a look through my books over the weekend.

All the best

If I'm not mistaken, Rowan, the B-25C also used .30 caliber machine guns as well. The few photos I've seen show a jacketed barrel similar to a standard .30 tripod mounted machine gun. It would also figure that the lighter caliber would allow more ammo to be carried.

Thanks Rowan, I've checked all my books on the B-25 and none show the interior of the C's strafer nose, I'm thinking that maybe none exist

James, The standard B model had a flex mounted .30cal in the nose but this was done away with in later models, to be replaced by a .50cal. A fixed forward .50 was also in the glazed nose from the C onwards with some having two.

Hi again Luciano

As I feared, I haven't turned up much. Have you got the Crowood book? - there's a shot on page 70 of "Pappy's Folly" where you can at least make out the ammunition feeds.

All the best

Hi Rowan, I'm not at home at the moment but I'll check if I have that book when I get home.

Hi Luciano

It's not great, and I still haven't found anything better. You can almost guarantee that if you cobble something together using a bit of educated guesswork and "gizmology", a set of perfect clear photos will turn up straight after!

If you can hold on, I wonder if Kagero have a book on the Mitchell in the Pacific planned for publication soon as a follow-up to their excellent MTO volume...

All the best

Thanks Rowan, I sure hope Kagero do have a Pacific B-25 book coming out

I'm not in a great hurry anyway although I do now have the all AM parts to hand, replacement cowls, decals, interior etch, Eduard .50cal guns and Quickboost B-25 gun barrel sets plus photo's from the web of the aircraft.

Just need a bench to build it on, Oh and clear the half builds that are also waiting for the bench!
