Bending acrylic rods

I want to mount an F-4 on a wooden base attached by a clear acrylic rod, but I 've never tried this before. Can anyone provide methods for bending the rod? Really hot water?

Submerge in boiling water for a few seconds, bend to shape and then submerge in cold water to set it.
