Hello Modelers,

I am currently building Tamiya's 1/32 F-14 and converting it to a B so I can use the ZOTZ decals of the Jolly Rogers.

However I have a few questions since I am not an F-14 expert.

First, what is the "GREY" part (looks a triangle) behind the swept wing called?

Second, what color would this be? I use ModelMaster paints if that helps.

Last, ZOTZ says the upperhalf of the aircraft is FS35237, Medium Grey. Is this correct? It looks awefully dark to me.

That grey "triangle" is an inflatable seal which fairs in the wings to reduce drag regardless of their sweep angle. I usually paint them in dark gull grey so that they contrast with the rest of the airframe.

35237 does sound a bit dark, but some were painted in a 3 tone scheme which included that colour. VF 143 comes to mind. this site illustrates it well. Other F-14s were painted in overall light gull grey, which is quite a bit lighter.

Your link to Photobucket is broken, so I can't see what you're trying to do there. Do you have a link to a picture of your subject?

The inflatable part that Jessie is referring to is called the 'wing glove', and it's about 1/2 shade darker than the surrounding paint.
