The F4U Corsair series of aircraft has always been a personal favorite, and I tend from time to time to build another variant. So naturally I read this review with great interest.

Solid, well written review, that led me to the home page where I was able to view a few sample pages with pictures. From the little I saw, there is more then enough to warrant the purchase of this book before I tackle my next Corsair build.

I purchased the Vought F4U Corsair book, hoping that many of the detail photographs would further my collection of detailed photographs as I continue to build 1 or 2 1/48 scale Corsairs per year. My book arrived a few days ago.

My 1st go through brought the realization that the book, while a wealth of information on the Corsair, is not aimed at the modeler. This is a well written and documented Monograph on the Corsair that targets the WW11 aircraft enthusiast. There is one excellent picture of the wing folding mechanism, and one of the oil tank. Several of the drop tanks and bombs racks and straps, flying surfaces, wheel doors, but not the wheel wells, dozens of different aircraft. Yet there is not one picture of the cockpit, side consols, instrument panel, engine, machine guns, wiring, plumbing,etc.

While I'm glad that I bought the monograph, it hasn't advanced my modeling knowledge, which is what I was hoping for.

If you build one or two Corsiars per year your're a specialist. I haven't build one in my live so for me everything in this books was quite new.

I fully agree with your opinion Joel about missing parts or things that are not described in this monograph. Writing the review I focused on the content which is presented in THIS volume. With a final judgement I would prefer to wait for a volume II as I have no idea yet what will it contain. I guess that only taken together these two (or maybe more) volumes will make a complete monograph.

Michael, believe me, I'm far from an expert by any stretch of the imagination. Like you, I'll be waiting for the 3nd vol., but will be some what more focused on the information as it relates to my modeling.
