I have a few Airfix Hawk 81A-2 P-40B, packaged with decals for the Flying Tigers. Is this model accurate for representing 112 Sqn in the Desert Air Force in 1942? I have done a lot of googling and looking at stuff in my local library but I can't arrive at any level of confidence. Its approaching an existential crisis at this point.
As I was moaning in another post, I am doing groups of 1/72 aircraft for a wargaming project. I have some nice tropical BF-109's that need an opponent. Pairing these models up and identifying squadrons and getting decals has been quite an adventure.
Thanks in advance for the help. And thanks for all the eye candy on the forum. Very inspirational!

The Tomohawk was the P-40B/C so the Airfix kit is accurate to portray a 112 Sqn Tomahawk. They were equipped with British radios and other internal equipment, but externally they were P-40Bs. Go ahead and build the Airfix kit with confidence

I have exactly the same project now and am using the Feb 2002 Scale Aviation Modeller as a reference for 112 Sqn.

This is a nice little kit, I built the Airfix starter kit that contained glue, a brush and acrylic paints with the RAF 112 Sq decals. The RAF birds used a different pitot tube than the ones with the USAAF.

As long as both parts are in the box it's not an issue for Schuyler

AVG long-nose P-40s were from an RAF order; photos show them with the same stepped pitot as the RAF Hawk 81. The Airfix kit has this pitot so it is appropriate for AVG and No. 112.
