My next build - WingNut Wings SE Cowan's Airco DH2 of Flight A, 24th Squadron.

Assembled cockpit and engine, prior to closing up nacelle around it - I have followed instructions to the "T" other than assembling the Lewis gun mount earlier on in the build... The cockpit otherwise looks like a leisurely place to relax in. I'm leaving the windscreen till the end, as not to muck it up.

Bracing for all the rigging ahead (pun intended)

Fuselage is closed up around the interior frame, gearing up for the weekend:

Photographing your work seems to be a real good way of spotting problems - noticed I forgot to paint inward facing sides of the wings where they attach to the fuselage.

Continued work:

Progress on the tail, nacelle and wing supports - plane began sprouting rigging wires...

Note - my mittens first broke off the rear PE sight and then the front, with both parts getting lost. I have contacted WnW and will be ordering new PE part to replace the lost sights.

This is the build with planes is mostly assembled and rigging is halfway up:

And then I was done:

Overall, an interesting build, though little overwhelming on the amount of rigging and having to rig around a flexible styrene frame. I'd probably jump at an aftermarket metal frame if there was one, otherwise WnW build was solid and enjoyable straight out of the box.

P.S. WnW also sold me an extra PE part to replace parts I've lost during the build - they arrived quickly and painlessly, so I didn't lose any time waiting around.

What materials and method of Rigging do you use? Results are impeccable.

Very nice Build Ivan. I like the heavy wear & tear weathering you applied, I like them looking used and this one looks like a real workhorse.
Good work and nice to hear Wingnut Wings followed through for you.
Cheers,
Lance

Hi - thanks for the compliments and kind words!

Method and means of rigging - I use Beadalon 7 strand jeweler's wire in 0.010" (0.25mm) with through-wing installation method (drill hole through, run line with bead of super-glue, let cure, trim and sand) and stripped electric wire insulation that's been of appropriate diameter for turnbuckles (I paint it brass)

On the frame, the wire is stretched between plastic loops (too thin to drill through) and "turnbuckles" hide excess glue. Wish I had third arm, but I've eventually learned a finger hold technique that both holds the plane and line stretched, applying glue/accelerator with free hand.

I'll be trying pre-formed brass tubes cut into 3mm segments for turnbuckles. Wire insulation is cheaper, but takes time to paint...

That's really fabulous, Ivan. I'd like to put that into a feature if you're willing.

With pleasure - should I e-mail you the pictures / write up? The ones I've uploaded last may be a bit on the small side and I should have more photos of the completed build handy.

I'll probably be able to get around it during the weekend / early next week - if e-mail is fine.

Yes please. As long as the pictures are at least 800 X 600 they'll work fine. If they're larger that means I get to play with them.
