Hi!
I will start this build blog after being inspired by Keeperofsouls and Joel's P-61 group build elsewhare on this site.
I welcome any body with any of these types in their stash to join in and build:-
DC-1 (1933)
DC-2 (1934)
DC-3 (1935) C-47/AC-47
DC-4E (1938)
DC-4 (1939) C-54
DC-5 (1939) C-110
DC-6 (1946) C-118
DC-7 (1953)
C-74 Globemaster (1945)
Any scale, hanger queens and what If's welcome.
No time limit, just build and post progress.
My first build will be a United Air Lines DC-4 in 1:144
Looking forward to other modelers postings.

Honestly, I rather like the informal campaign thats a no pressure build blog idea. Its nothing new, though. Frigates 1/144 Scale Modeling blog started in 2007 has had the same effect, with fairly consistent 'entries' being entered without it intentionally being a campaign.
For those of us who start builds only to lose interest at some point and temporarily shelve them until later, I think this is just the ticket.
Tinbanger, heres an example. My DC-4 start on the very kit your suggesting to build yourself.
Still alot of work to do, but, perhaps I can finish it during this 'campaign'.
Another reason I'm personally liking the informal, no rules idea. Who wants to wait a year or more for a campaign to start, when you have it in your mind to build something now, even if it's been shelved, and is well on its way.
This is only a natural extension to the real campaigns. And I'm fairly sure that campaigns are one of the most popular catagories on the site.
Just my 2cents.

Hi Ben.
"Another reason I'm personally liking the informal, no rules idea. Who wants to wait a year or more for a campaign to start, when you have it in your mind to build something now, even if it's been shelved, and is well on its way."
I think many out there would agree with you.
This blog will be a focus on DC props, campaigns will always be the meeting point for modelers with interest's in different type of aircraft to be built in a common campaign.

I did say that this is as good a place as any to do this one. I wonder what this rumpled bag has inside?
The parts are entirely devoid of surface detail
But there are some nice resin, white metal and low-pressure injection detail bits
And Mike Herril's very nice drawings
All I really need is a good set of decals and lots of plastic card.

While I do have interest in joining down the road, my Plate is rather full right now. Will most likely being doing a C-47 in either 1/72 or 1/48(?) scale.
Jessica, that's a rather interesting build you're taking on. Are you planning on scribing any of the missing panel lines?

Hmmm, I've got a couple of started DC-3s in the stash. An Italeri (?) that my son started the interior on that I could break down and start over. Another one (Airfix) was stated for an ID model group build that may have the fuselage started and the props clipped off.. Or I could cough up $20 or so for one of those 1/144 DC-4's......

Fuselage and wings went together well and should only require a small amount of filler at the wing roots.

Primer on and some touch up to do.

I will be interested on how it turns out. I'm surprised you installed the engine cowls at this stage. I'm also looking forward to the DC-5 build. I have the same kit.

Nice thread youve got here Richard.
Nice DC-4 too, nothing like a shiney coat of Alclad.
Ive been working on this welsh C-54 for a couple of years.
I had stopped at attaching the wings to the fuselage. the plastic was very thin and just butt-welding them was not going to be at all stable. I needed to build a spar across and design a method of securing the wings to it, and build some internals in the wings. I just recently overcame that hurdle and got those things done.
Also, two DC-6Bs roughed out.

That's really nice
I'm doing that exact same one for the wrap-up of the Douglas campaign. I hope I get mine looking half as good

Thank you Jessica.
Good quality decals help, the decal placement drawing and actual final placement are off a little but it came out ok in the end.
When you apply the cockpit decals put the"clear "frames on first and then the black glass over top and this will cover any areas that the blue head dress misses.
