Hi John

Lovely work as usual. The wooden parts do look pretty heavy compared with shots of the full-sized framework. How does Hasegawa's interpretation measure up side by side?

All the best

Thanks Rowan ! Hasagawa's interpretation is definitely more accurate and in scale compared to the Model Airways version ,no doubt about it.The best of the Model Airways stuff is their Jenny ,the others I used as a starting point for some modification and for scratch building. It is the look of wood that actually sets them apart in my mind,it is just so hard to replicate in plastic, especially for an open structure type model.
I have seen some great work by others however, that comes pretty close to representing the real thing. It will be interesting to see how they would plan to do it as a stand alone model.I can usually get away with a lot more using the lighting etc...of a shadow box.Painting is not something that I do not do very well so I cheat a lot.

Hi John

As always - there are compromises either way. I have to agree that it's very rare to see plastic painted truly convincingly as wood - and on those occasions, you know you're seeing the work of a real master finisher.

All the best
