I remember being a kid back in the 70s the box art was the only reference to go by and you had to hope that the local candy store or verity store had aTestors Enamal paint close to the colors on the box

Think he missed one. I remember trying to build a 1/100 scale one back in 1969, Hasegawa? Tried to paint it by hand, didn't work well, IIRC the colors were OK, except I used flats. But I remember it looking like I'd used house paint...8^(.
