I decided to do some experimentation with a model which I had finished. This is the Academy 1/72 scale, Focke-Wulf 190D-9 which I built and used extra FW-190D decals from my spare collection to finish.
I just recently took too the airbrush and put some new mottling on the sides of the fuselage and on the tail. I used some RLM 74 and RLM 81, dark grey and brown-violet, to finish up the model. I think it came out okay.
I then softened the camouflage with a light spray of RLM 76 blue-grey. I hope you all enjoy looking. Russell

Note, I realize that the white swirl on the propeller spinner is offset some, it isn't on quite right, however, the only thing I can think of, other than just a mental lapse, is that that is the only way I could get the decal to lie down on the spinner flat. Just thought I would say something.

Russell,
Your pictures are not showing...I only see the dreaded X.

I saw them earlier this morning. I suspect a problem with whatever site they're hosted on.

I have made another modification to this FW-190D. I sanded off the swirl decal and just repainted the spinner RLM 83. Will post some more photos. I hope you all can see them. Russell

Hi Terri, I didn't express myself correctly in my last post. I have been airbrushing for about 15 years, (although it may not look like it LOL), I just put some new camouflage on the aircraft model to experiment with it. Thanks for the compliment. Russell

Russell, the FW-190D looks really good. The repaint was well worth the effort. I saw the original pictures just before I had to leave for work yesterday, and did indeed notice that the white swirl wasn't centered. The all RLM 83 colored spinner looks better, but which is really correct for the aircraft you're modeling?

Hi Joel, thanks for the kind words. I don't really know about which is correct for the aircraft. I am not really modeling any one particular machine, just more of a general purpose camouflage scheme! I think I am happier with the swirl gone too. Russell

Took some more shots of the FW in natural light. What do you think? I like natural light, but it sure shows up any flaws you have on the model I think!! LOL Russell

Painting looks good Russell!

You are soooo right about using natural light for photographing models, the smallest of defects really show up but I use that to my advantage by taking all my model pictures outdoors...in-progress to the finished product.
By taking in-progress pictures outdoors has really helped me become a better modeler because it shows me very clearly if my seam lines or paint jobs need more work.

Funny thing is all my old models that were built using indoor lighting looked like crap after I bought my first digital camera and took some pictures of them outdoors, I threw them in the garbage after I could see just how bad they really were.
