As the 800-pound gorilla in the room, Testors cannot be ignored so I won't say that I'll never buy any more of their stuff. However, now that Testors have finally usurped the preeminent Floquil and Polly Scale brands, Testors Corp. no longer has much that I prefer over other brands.

I've been using less and less of Testor's finishing products over the years. Started off with those little bottles of enamel paint, but these days I have none in my paint rack. I've tried and tried Their Model Master acrylic paints including their primer, but they just don't have the adhesion of the Tamiya acrylics, as I just can't mask them without issues. I do use them for certain colors that I know I won't have to mask. What I do still use and dearly love is their Glosscoat and Dullcoat. I would be lost without either of them.

I can't speak for the acrylics, but I'm really pleased to see ModelMaster enamels becoming easier to obtain again in the UK. I used to really like them back in the early '90s - but then they all but disappeared over here. I notice they have them at ModelHobbies, so I'm tempted to get some with my next order.

I only ever found a few bottles of Floquil and Polly Scale many, many years ago in a specialist model railway shop - fantastic paints, but they were never really distributed widely in the UK, so you never saw them in the average LHS.

That's because Tamiya Acrylics, aren't actually acrylics, they are an acrylic lacquer, which is basically a lacquer paint with an acrylic carrier for ease of clean up....in the end....they are just a lacquer paint masquerading as an acrylic, which is why Tamiya's Lacquer thinner actually works better with them, then their "acrylic" thinner does.

Yes, I use cellulose thinners when airbrushing Tamiya acrylics - it thins the paint beautifully and gives a more robust finish on styrene.

OK, maybe I'm from the wrong side of the pond, but what is a cellulose thinner?

My local Hobby Town is now carrying a line of Testors Lacquers. Anyone know anything about these? I'm wondering if it's a repackaging/rebranding of the old Floquil paints.

I think cellulose and lacquer thinners are essentially the same thing - just the UK and US terms respectively.

Have to ask, don't want to come out with a fancy hat when what I needed was a hood.

I'l hoping to try out the Testors silver lacquer soon. I was so disappointed when I finally managed to score a bottle of Floquil Old Silver, only to find out they'd changed the formula. It was basically a larger bottle of Testors silver.
