Thank you Mal!
The decals are now on this model.

This is an absolutely first class build Les, top marks for workmanship! The natural metal finish is oustanding and very pleasing to the eye. I also like both your cockpit work and the overall camo scheme/shading.

Les,
Outstanding camo paint scheme. Decaling looks just like paint. Really looking forward to seeing it finally finished.

Thanks guys!
I have added most of the small (but breakable) bits to the airframe and will be painting them soon, I should have another in-progress pic or two posted soon.

Hi Les
It's looking another real beauty! I'll have to try you tip for blending in stencil markings.

Thank you Rowan!
Here is the Me 163 just before the small bits were glued on, I did some light paint chipping on the fuselage mostly around the cockpit where the pilot would enter and exit the aircraft.
After the semi-gloss clear coat is put on I will add a little more paint chipping with a sharpened silver colored artists pencil.

Les,
The Me 163 is really shaping up nicely. Looking forward to your next update with the masking off the windscreen.

The last of the small parts of the airframe have been added and painted, next it will get a thin coat of Future to even out the finish before spraying on a semi-gloss clear coat.
The small bits below have been painted and weathered, these things will be given a full flat coat.

Matricone, any chance of a run down of the internal cockpit colours / paints used?

Carl,
I use Model Master enamel paints most of the time.
Paint colors used for the cockpit was mostly RLM 66 black grey, Model Masters version of RLM 66 is too light for my taste so I added just a tiny bit of flat black to darken it.
The leather headrest was painted in a custom mix of semi-gloss black-brown.
I used my reference books to help me in doing the detail painting of the cockpit but the painting instructions that came with the kit are pretty good and should be of help to you if you don't have any reference books.
One thing that is TERRIBLE about this kit is the supplied instrument decals, they should be replaced or just go ahead and paint the instrument faces by hand.

Thanks muchly Maxtrixone,
I have a 1:48 box of Me 163 parts to assemble. Might be the Dragon kit. I do have fair bit of Me 163 reference but most of the pics are in B&W, no surprises. And have just started to look into the shopping list for the internal paint.
I might open the box on the weekend and look and the instructions.
cheers

Carl,
One of the better reference books that will help you with painting the interior of your Me 163 is ''German Aircraft Interiors'', this book has been around for a while and maybe you can find a copy somewhere. There are some good color photographs in this book of a Me 163 cockpit in mostly original paint colors.

Matrixone,
Thanks for that, much appreciated, at great expense I have ordered up the book figuring it will come in handy for some other projects in the stash and wish list.
regards carl

Carl,
After buying reference books over the years I have been burned a few times with some poorly done books but the German Aircraft Interiors book is one of the better books in my collection and it has been very helpful.
