Instruction suggests orange as a color of U.S. Navy Pilot's suit for my A-4 Skyhawk. Wouldn't olive drab/green be more appropriate for Vietnam War era navy pilot?

US Navy suits could be orange, or just as frequently they could be sage green. The orange suits were introduced during the 1960s and were designed to be highly visible to help searchers locate swimming pilots. They were gradually replaced during the '70s with the green because orange is less than invisible in a jungle.

So depending on the time frame, luck of the draw, how the Supply Officer was feeling, what your pilot had hanging in his locker that morning, his suit could be either green or orange and be equally accurate.
