Good moaning everybody!

Something I did on other forums was start a blog for any GB/campaigns I partake in.

So here is my airfix 1/72 P-47D thunderbolt.

Will be scratching a basic-ish cockpit for this.

More pics tonight,

James.

Uau, that box art is inspiring!
Is that P-47 new moulding?

James, welcome to Aeroscale. I'll be following your build with interest, as Jugs are a special interest to me. Being a long Islander, I grew up not far from Republic's home in Farmingdale NY.

hi all,

pedro, not a new moulding, 1965 I think it is, the new box art is truly amazing from airfix, much work goes into it.

joel, many thanks, would've been nice to be there at the time!

now for an update,

I've started on the cockpit a bit, I'm making the cockpit floor right now

only started, will be making a yolk and an instrument panel as well, then i'll begin ribbing the walls

the fuselage is not glued together yet, I'm just doing this to get some alignment for the floor,
for a 1965 kit the fit between the 2 halves is amazing!

one half of the wings, right now it's VERY weak, mishandle this even the slightest and it will no doubt snap,

speaking of snapping, I've broken the prop, so contacted airfix and a spare is being sent.

that's all for now guys and gals,

james.

James, it's truly an ancient kit. I did a Google search and it seems that the kit was 1st released by Airfix as a new tool circa 1963. From the few builds I found, there is a rather severe issue with the wing roots.

Joel,

Just pushed the wings and fuselage together, it seems you're right! I think I'll need to order a few tubes of filler!

Welcome to Aeroscale James!

Good start on your Jug! There's nothing like an old Airfix kit to get you all nostalgic and weepy eyed

For me it would be an old 1st edition Monogram kit.

Michael, that is too true

Joel, monogram. Now your talking

Does anyone have any pictures of the P-47s control stick/yoke?

I've tried google as a few other place but can't find any good pictures showing almost only the stick

Thanks,

James.

You may enjoy this:

The joystick is a fairly simple slightly curved tube with the grip angled slightly forward.
Here's a good view.

James, there is an entire Sig here on the P-47. Everything you could possibly want to know or see is there.

hi Jessica,
a very good vid that looks, but at 40 mins that's something for later!
the pic is very good, it's also answered the question about the sights I was about to ask.

joel,
an entire SIG! wow! seems very informative, will ask the people on there if I have any more Q's on this.

got a new nozzle for my A/B today so I can continue on the cockpit.

good moaning everybody,

a small but important update on progress.

I have completely finished cutting the cockpit floor and instrument panel.

as you can see it needs a little tidying up, once that's done i'll begin painting it.

that pic shows the blanking plate which will go behind the panel and the cockpit floor, I'm not going to rib it. the hole which you see in it will have the control stick in it.

that's all for now.

Good moaning all,

A bit more progress tonight,

I've completely painted all alreas of the cockpit, including the panel,

Now I just need to drybrush little bits of the panel and it can all go together,

After that the kit just falls together with a lot of filler

Will post pics tommorow,

James.
