Yesterday, an ethiopian Boeing was hijacked while flying over Swiss airspace. It was soon intercepted by French and Italian jets (as is usually the case with a hijacked plane).

The Swiss Air Force itself was NOT available because that "force" only works during office hours; from 08.00h until 12.00h and from 13.30h until 17.00h.

I suppose that hijackers will now be requested to respect the core hours of the Swiss Air Force and refrain from any actions until convenient.

do they also get weekends off ? ....

Of course, and summer holidays, and probably a stop for wintersports as well.

a very civilized country , as us brits would say. got to say i did like the place the last time i went there...

certainly would be a very interesting way to fight a war. We don't even have those hours at work.

That's what happens if politicians keep cutting the budget... Next will be the question of whether we will replace our old F-5 Tiger II with the Saab Gripen. If that goes down the drain all that's left are 32 F-18s. 24/7 readiness will be impossible then anyway...
