I think that's nine. Jessie?

Michael

would you entertain the possibility of a YF-12?

You just can't help yourself, can you?

OK, I'll go along with a YF-12 (though I'll probably live to regret it.)

Looks like I've got some rules to write!

More to the point, it existed, it really flew and it would have worked if the Government was only willing to pay for it. Plus I already have the kit, and it carried its bangy things inside

Though I'd not consider this list complete and some may find their choices debatable, this from the Military Factory at least gives visual representaions of their 95 examples.

John Pereira mentioned a Yak-28, which I had never heard of.

I'm still considering the F-106 but I do have an F-89 calling for attention.

@Michael: after taking a look at the link that you provided I read them all and have narrowed my choices down to too many to post. I do like the F4D and the English Electric Lighting.

@Mark: I went to Squadron to see if I could obtain an F89m but they were out.

@Bob, Sprue Bros has the RoG 1/72 F-89 D/J for ~$22. Roll Models has it for $20, but the listing sez 1/48 and the matching photo is the RoG F-89 D/J

Mark: thanks for the information, but it is hard enough for me to hold and see 1/48 which leaves out 1/72. I think that there are other 1/48 subjects that would interest me and we still have a little time yet.

Hi Michael,

Here you have some good footage of Russian Interceptor, including the Yak's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8fNjfAIy_g

I think A-model covers almost every variant..

They also have the Yak-27 & 25 versions.

Also a book :

Yes, thank for the links, John!

When you think of F-106's and Gloster Javelins, 'interceptor' does not immediately come to mind with the Yak-28.

How does this look?

An interceptor is an aircraft whose job it is to launch and climb quickly to stop enemy bombers before they can drop their load on territory the interceptor is protecting. Originally normal fighter aircraft were modified to do this job, particularly in WWI over Britain. Later, as bomb loads became more destructive, airplanes were designed around the need to meet enemy bombers as far out as possible and led to the single role aircraft of the cold war.

According to Wikipedia:

An interceptor aircraft, or simply interceptor, is a type of fighter aircraft designed specifically to prevent successful missions by enemy aircraft, particularly bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. There are generally two classes of interceptors, light aircraft built for outright performance, and heavier aircraft designed to fly at night or in heavy weather and operate over longer ranges.
For daytime missions, conventional fighters normally fill the interceptor role, as well as many other missions. Daytime interceptors have been used in the defensive role since the First World War, but are best known during several major actions during World War II, notably the Battle of Britain
Night fighters and bomber destroyers are, by definition, interceptors of the heavy type, although they were rarely referred to this way at first. In the early Cold War era the combination of jet powered bombers and the atom bomb created a demand for highly capable interceptors, and it is during this period that the term is most used.

Any of these types would be acceptable in this campaign as long as the model is depicted as it appeared in this role.

Rules:

1. Entry must be a dedicated interceptor aircraft as defined above, though not necessarily designed as an interceptor as long as it was deliberately put in that role. If the aircraft type performed other roles, the model must be depicted in the configuration and colors of an interceptor.
2. Can be an aircraft from any era or nation as long as it fits the definition.
3. No what-ifs.
4. Any scale; stand-alones, vignettes, dioramas OK.
5. ampaign will run from 7/1/15 – 12/31/15.
6. Enter as many as you like but each modeler will only get one ribbon.
7. Models must be unstarted at beginning of campaign and finished at the end.
8. At least one in progress shot (but hopefully more) of each model should be posted in the campaign thread and at least one finished shot (but hopefully more) in the campaign gallery.
9. Defend your territory; and have fun!

A little clarification on the Yak-28. The only interceptor versions were those with the solid radar nose. Glass-nose Yak 28s were attack aircraft or reconnaissance versions.

That's right !

Yak-28P (Izdeliye 40) (NATO reporting name - "Firebar")

A dedicated long-range interceptor version, the Yak-28P was developed from 1960 and deployed operationally from 1964.

Fully operational training versions accepted? For example Su21F/Su15TM Flagon? Also, I have an Su21G/Su15UM Flagon. Both are PM offerings. Either way I would like to join in, but prefer to do the trainer.

So the trainer could be used in operations, like the Mirage IIIB and F-15B? In that case, I'd say yes.

Well, having seen no objections to the description or rules, I have submitted the campaign. And, as I have rather an "in" with the Admin, it's been approved (I was kinda biting my nails there for a bit to see whether he'd do it, he can be difficult sometimes)! We'll be starting one month after the Fighter-Bomber campaign and run alongside it.

So, here we go. Enlist here and we'll get going! Oh, and I guess we'd better start talking about ribbon designs. Any ideas?

I'm in (#5). Now I just need to take the next year to decide between the F-89 and F-106.

Thanks Jessica for the extremely kind offer
I'd rather take my chances with the A-Model family, I can't believe I just wrote that ( and said it out loud !!) ..
