Hi Steffen

Just the latest photo - it looks stumpy somehow compared with the earlier ones.

All the best

Rowan

Rowan, well what shall I say: I chopped off the nose and shortened it to give certain people something to discuss

NOT

(isn't that something you find funny on the island)

As I wrote very little progress as I am sick (at least the doctor confirmed it so I can stay in bed instead of working)

here is the latest picture with flat coat on (the new Tamiya stuff is nice!!)

all the best

Steffen

Hi Steffen

Very neat! How come you have to obscure the swastika in some of your shots, but not others?

New Tamiya stuff? What's that? It'll probably take about 10 years to reach us out here in the sticks. LOL!

Hi Rowan,

I use the Bf 109G pix in my online build (IPMS Deutschland site) and these only here (so far) as soon as I publish my article of the kit "at home" I will obscure the swastikas.

Tamiya brought out a flat coat in the XF series somewhere in the 80ies (small bottles ~ same price). The new tire black is also nice.

all the best

Steffen

P.S. dang Snooker WM final and I am so tired ... probably won't see the winner tonite

Hi again

Ahh - all makes sense.

Galeria's still my favourite flat coat after many years, but I'm always up for trying anything new - I'm a sucker for any new paint!

Snooker? What's that? It'll probably take about 10 years to reach us out here in the sticks.

Far more exciting - new Mad Men and Game of Thrones.

All the best

Cheers Rowan,

well, My favorite is Gunze H20 .. great stuff, but must not be applied too much. The tamiya stuff leaves a less "rough" surface so it is somthing betwee semimatt and dead flat.

all the best

Steffen
(my favorite new series is The Blacklist, but I stick to older ones just to turn off the brain, Castle, Burn Notice, NCIS.. stuff like that .. not to foget all the nice SciFi stuff of my younger years ... I am getting old .. not that I ever grew up)

Hi all,

Another bit of progress. I demasked the canopy, installed the still missing control column and back armour (early type without sloped head armour). The I then drilled a hole in the canopy and antenna mast and glued it on the model with a piece of wire...

Hi Steffen , been following along on the side lines on this build for a while now and I must say , very well done so far ! Camo turned out great and I do like how you tackle your wash for breaking up a uniform colour .

Thanks Terri,

well, the main goal is to get uneven panel line shades. Of course there is always a film/filter on the model left and I want that too.

Steffen,
Really an outstanding build so far. Your overall washes (filters) do a great job of creating uneven weathering/fading. It sure toned down that bright yellow.

For those type of washes I still use Flory's Promodeller washes. I have both the light gray and the dark gray, so I can mix any shade I want. I also have found that after the 1st application I can add a blotchy pattern of more of the same color or a different shade. Then when I remove it with a damp piece of paper towel and Q-tips, I can get all sorts of various effects. More rubbing, less variation.

For pin washes I still use different colors of enamels, but no longer artist oils. Just too messy to deal with.

Thanks Joel!!

Well I try to alter the methods I use. I used to a certain set of tools and methods and seldom try someting really new, but I like to vary things especially as I also build 48 scale armour and cars which needs other "abilities".

Hi all,

a little more done. I have added the exhaust stains, the wing guns (from the kit) and the aerial. I have used Uschi von der Rostens fine rigging thread. Still missing are the mass balances for the ailerons and the pitot.

I really do like your E-7, Steffen.
In your last photos on this thread page, though, it really appears you've dropped some ketchup on the lower rudder. Is that intentional?

Many Thanks Ben and Anthony!

@Ben: on the original Photo you can see dark repair patches on the rudder. These were normally sealed with red primer... assuming bullet holes were fixed I did them on both sides (slightly shifted)

Steffen,
The addition of the exhaust smokes stains, and the antenna, just completes an excellent build.

You can, it looks very fine. I'm looking forward to see it in the flesh one day. This is one of my favorite camo for the Bf 109.

Thanks Jean-Luc ... maybe Telford. Depends on what I get done until then.
